The Washington Metrorail "Metro" is the second busiest transit rail system in the U.S., serving more than 600,000 customers a day. Arlington's 11 Metro stations are ideally situated on the Orange, Silver, Blue and Yellow Metro lines providing residents and workers easy access to Washington, D.C. and the Virginia and Maryland suburbs.

Future Investment

Solid Investment in the Future

Since the 1970s, when Arlington made the strategic decision to expand Metrorail underground, Arlington, VA has always been forward-thinking and strategic when it comes to future investments to better the community. And that commitment to strategic investments continues today.

Arlington is continuously making investments to improve its transit corridors, including funding for Metro, enhanced transit service along Columbia Pike and the adoption of the County's Transit Development Plan that will enhance the County's transit goals and provide multiple ways for residents and workers to get around seamlessly. What's more, plans are underway for a pedestrian bridge that will connect the commercial areas of the National Landing neighborhood with Reagan National Airport, allowing for quick and easy access for those arriving or departing via air.

But transit isn't the only place where strategic investments are taking place. Arlington County has committed more than $127 million to technology investments over the next decade, including increased broadband initiatives and public safety information technology to refresh or replace existing public safety systems, therefore providing for increased speed in response and public safety throughout the community.
